"Rackerwerk"
At the ‘Rackerwerk’ (mischief factory) playground, yesterday’s hardwork becomes child's play. All the while, the furnace stays cold. Gravel can be lifted into the funnel of the play blast furnace. From there, it slides down to the tapping hole. The young blast furnace operators can then transport ‘iron’ (gravel) through the channels to the tapping hall. The large slide is another attraction. The ‘Rackerwerk’ playground has been awarded the German “Spielraum” Prize.

The Rat's Trail
No one knows the museum grounds quite as well as the blue rat. Our museum mascot introduces children to the wonders of steel and iron. The stations of the circular trail are pipes and nooks, which can be independently explored. Each station has models and hands-on activities to help visitors better understand what happens in the blast furnace.

Museum app
The museum app offers visitors interactive experiences. The highlight is a game called “Mit der Ratte durchs Revier” (around the grounds with the rat), in which children, young people and families can follow the virtual blue rat around the museum grounds, solving exciting puzzles along the way. There are not only interesting facts to learn about iron, but also mini-games, videos and spectacular pictures.
The game is offered in four languages: German, English, Dutch and Turkish.
