Families

Explore the museum, run around, play and then have a picnic – we have lots to offer for family outings.

"Rackerwerk"
At the ‘Rackerwerk’ hut playground, the hard work of yesteryear becomes child's play. However, the furnace remains cold. Gravel must be transported up into the funnel of the play blast furnace. From there, it slides through the blast furnace to the tapping hole. Here, the little blast furnace operators transport their ‘iron’ made of gravel through the channels in the tapping hall. Another attraction is a giant slide. The playground has been awarded the German Play Area Prize.

The Rat's Trail
No one knows the museum grounds as well as the blue rat. Our museum mascot introduces children to the secrets of steel and iron. Tubes and niches form the stations of the circular trail, which can be explored independently of guided tours. At all these stations, there are models and hands-on activities to help visitors better understand what happens in the blast furnace.

Museum app
With the museum app ‘Through the district with the rat’ (Through the district with the rat), visitors can get to know the museum in a playful way and discover exciting places and exhibits.
